How to get started with AI agents in your organization
How to choose a use case, connect your data and keep human oversight from day one.
An AI agent is a system that does more than answer questions: it plans steps, uses tools and carries out tasks with your organization’s data. That capability makes it useful, but it also calls for an orderly start.
1. Choose a narrow use case
Start with a repetitive process that has clear rules and an easily verifiable result: answering frequent inquiries, classifying documents or preparing a draft report. Avoid starting with critical or ambiguous processes.
2. Define which data and tools it needs
List the sources the agent must consult and the actions it may run. Apply the principle of least privilege: the agent only accesses what is essential, and every action is logged.
3. Keep a person in the loop
At the beginning, have a person review or approve sensitive actions. As the agent proves reliable, its autonomy can be expanded gradually and in a measured way.
4. Measure before scaling
Define indicators from the start: time saved, errors caught, user satisfaction. A pilot with clear metrics lets you decide with evidence whether it is worth extending.
5. Govern data and security
Review which personal data is processed, with what authorization and where. Document your decisions and test the agent against malicious instructions before putting it into production.
